The city of Calabasas unveiled the completed makeover of Old Town at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, January 11th. The upgrade includes new sidewalks, benches, landscaping, street lights, fencing, signage, and other improvements to the historic district.
The Old Town Sidewalk Replacement project, which began in April 2022, focused on upgrading the walkways along Calabasas Road between Park Granada and the southbound ramp of the Ventura (101) Freeway. The city stated that the project was undertaken to improve walkways that required regular maintenance.
According to city officials, the current sidewalk material in Old Town had reached the end of its lifespan and was in need of constant repair and maintenance. They assured that despite the upgrades, Old Town will retain its unique charm.
City officials stated on the city website that the upgrades in Old Town will both preserve and improve the 'Old West' aesthetic while also providing better pedestrian facilities.
