Elton John Increases International Property Holdings with Toronto Penthouse Purchase

Musical legend Elton John has long established himself as quite the real estate mogul, owning a number of luxury homes and properties across the globe, including in the United Kingdom, France, Beverly Hills, and even in Atlanta, Georgia. Now the performer of such rock classics as “Philadelphia Freedom” and “Rocket Man” is back in the market. According to a recent report, John and his Canadian husband, David Furnish, purchased a luxury penthouse atop the King Toronto development, a vast downtown property in the center of Toronto.

According to the musical legend, the couple and their children spend a large portion of their summers in Canada visiting the family of Furnish. This required them to have a place to stay when visiting the country.

King Toronto is the vision of Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, who sought to build an iconic structure for both the King Street West neighborhood and the city itself. Thus, the property was designed garnering inspiration from the Maison de Verre in Paris and Habitat 67 in Montréal. According to the literature put out by the architectural firm, the goal was to create a complex that was a gesamtkunstwerk, the German word for “a total work of art.”

The architect designed the structure to give it a mountaintop feel in the heart of one of the largest cities on the planet. Six penthouses are atop the structure, including trees, foliage, and other similar natural foliage found on the mountaintop. This gives it a spectacular design that will surely be a tourist attraction.

The apartment is 2400 square-foot and includes custom brass detailing, light oak floorboards, and a floating staircase that curls between the two floors. Venetian plaster walls enclosed the structure, and there is a multitude of windows and walls of glass that help to illuminate the penthouse in a spectacular display.

John and his husband are reported to have purchased one of the penthouses known as the “Treehouse,” which is on the west corner of the complex. This “Western mountaintop” uses natural and artificial light to accent swoops in curves, much like one would find at the TWA terminal at JFK airport in New York City.

According to the literature about King Toronto, the penthouse is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom unit that receives its name from a tree that grows out of a circular carved travertine planter. This tree rises through the vaulted atrium, rising to stories. This provides a beautiful interplay between the two levels and integration between the interior and exterior of the penthouse. Plus, a beautiful view of the sky and skyline is included, giving a genuinely breathtaking appearance.

The kitchen cabinets are built with brass, giving a luxurious yet warm look. It is an open plan for the living/dining room space, and there are four terraces that include a lush set of foliage for each terrace. In addition, there are two more terraces, one of which consists of a spa located directly off the main bedroom and on the upper floor.

This location is not just about the penthouse itself, however. Those living in the penthouse will enjoy an extensive array of available services and recreational options. There are shops and restaurants that are located on the ground floor of the structure, and an interior courtyard provides a wonderful place to eat lunch or relax. A large sun terrace wraps around the communal party room that is included in the interior of the building. Plus, there is a large fitness and yoga space, an indoor pool and hot tub, and a board room. It is expected that businesses and restaurants that open to the structure's exterior will be available to all visiting the property.

The penthouse will not be completed until 2023, but no concern for John and his family. They still have plenty of residence options while waiting for the project to be completed. Since the 1970s, the music star has made his home in a 35-acre country estate in Old Windsor in the United Kingdom. He may have to do with the property until his new penthouse accommodations are completed.
