Welcome to Tarzana

Tarzana Living:

Tarzana is a quiet, suburban area filled with shopping centers, nice grocery stores, and plenty of activities. The neighborhood was named after the creator of Tarzan, and it boasts a thriving community and rich history even to this day. It’s situated between Woodland Hills and Encino, with Topanga State Park to the South.

Tarzana Real Estate Insights

Most homes in the Tarzana area list for higher than the LA average, especially houses perched up on the Santa Monica mountains. The neighborhood has country clubs, a variety of gated communities, townhouses, condos, and single family homes. A house here will typically list for about $1 Million, and the average price per square foot hovers above $500. Homes in the area vary greatly by size and features. It’s not hard to find a house with a pool and a view, or a studio apartment in a big building.

The People and Lifestyle

Many homeowners in Tarzana have lived there for most of their lives, some of them 40-50 years. There’s a huge sense of pride and care for property, neighbors, and the community as a whole. Although the neighborhood isn’t directly connected to any major attractions, you’ll never be more than a half hour away from the beach, or the main parts of town. Thus, residents are usually well read in the LA area as a whole, and the relaxed feeling of the neighborhood makes it feel like an Oasis from the city.

Attractions

Tarzana might not seem like the most hip and happening neighborhood in town, but it certainly has a lot to do. Residents enjoy the 550 acre golf course at El Caballero Country Club, which has been recognized as one of the best golf courses in the LA area by a number of local magazines and newspapers.

To see the heart of the area, head on over to the Village Walk. This is a major commercial area complete with a huge Whole Food Market, generous walking area, multiple restaurants, a cafe, bar and a clothing store. The Village Walk is loosely jungle themed, and residents join together for a “Jingle in the Jungle” party around the holiday season complete with kid friendly activities and a tree lighting ceremony.

For outdoor activities, there’s plenty to choose from. For those looking to take a bike ride away from the noise and traffic of the city, there’s the Orange Line Bike Path, which can take you all the way to Burbank. There’s also the Mulholland Hiking Trails which are free if you park outside of the designated parking lot.

Tarzana has more plant nursery land than anyone could see in a single day, with several large nurseries throughout the neighborhood which are worth checking out. Tarzana Park is the ultimate outdoor excursion, packed with trails, two baseball fields, a jungle gym, basketball court, and a community center.

Restaurants

Tarzana isn’t full of trendy, hipster restaurants like the rest of LA, but it does have a quality selection of eateries at a reasonable price. There’s a little bit of everything here, so it’s best to explore as much as possible. Whatever you look for, you’ll find plenty of variety. From sushi joints to kosher food, dive bars to middle cuisine, and everything in between, you’re sure to find something up your alley.

Shopping

The shopping scene in Tarzana is very practical, while retaining some hidden gems and interesting stores. Besides the local Whole Foods and other chains, there’s a lot to see in the neighborhood outlets. Some of our favorites include the rare guitar store, plant nursery, and the British gift shop.
