Once Featured on HGTV, Transcendent Lake Travis Glass Home Listed for $1.2M

This unique HGTV-famous treehouse-like house close to Lake Travis is listed for $1.2 million and is now Under Contract! This 1,653 square foot home has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and plenty of rustic yet contemporary elegance. It is located at 2803 Manitou Dr., just south of Hudson Bend. The house is in the Apace Shores district.

The modern house, which sits on a half-acre woodland lot, features 11 sliding glass doors and glass walls reaching 30 feet. The two-story house is one of the few in the area with private access to the Indian Creek hiking route. It was constructed in 2003 as architect John Allen's personal dwelling.

Due to the surrounding flora of the hiking trail and the sun, moon, stars, and thunderstorms as seen via glass walls and balconies, Allen thought the rugged and what some deemed unbuildable lot was the ideal site to realize his goal of living one with nature.

In addition to being featured on the HGTV program Look What I Did in 2007, the house most recently served as the primary shooting location for a future motion picture. The hillside property, situated back from an end road, has decks and patios on all four sides, as seen in the movie. The atmosphere is enhanced by nearby waterfalls and a spring-fed brook. The sale includes an undeveloped adjacent lot.

Before getting married, Allen built the glass-and-steel mansion as his bachelor pad, which he later sold to the present owner in 2007. In an interview with Suzanne Allen, John’s wife, she mentioned that the public's general perception of their visions for the house deeming it impossible to create, encouraged and inspired them. They wanted to prove that their vision, with hard work and determination, can be a reality. Indeed, if we believe in something, we ought to persevere to get it.
