Edwin Castro's life has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent months. In November, he purchased a winning Powerball lottery ticket at a Mobil gas station in Altadena, a Los Angeles suburb. Last month, he claimed his record-breaking prize of $997.6 million before taxes. Now, he is the proud owner of a luxurious mansion located in the Hollywood Hills, alongside famous neighbors such as Ariana Grande, Dakota Johnson, and Jimmy Kimmel.

Castro, who has been a local resident of Pasadena and the surrounding areas for a long time, is relatively young, believed to be in his early 30s. While little is known about him publicly, his new hillside mansion speaks volumes. The contemporary design of the house, built by noted developer Roman James and previously featured in Robb Report, is boldly extroverted, with its blocky structure standing three stories tall and boasting over 13,000 square feet of living space.

The mansion features five bedrooms, five bathrooms, two powder rooms, and an entirely hardscaped backyard with an outdoor kitchen and infinity pool. The living area is situated on the main level, featuring a vast central space with a fireplace and kitchen sporting black granite countertops. The walls of glass offer a seamless connection to the backyard, providing stunning views of the entire L.A. city skyline, from Downtown skyscrapers to Century City, the Pacific Ocean, and Catalina Island.

The exterior of the mansion is austere, painted in masculine shades of gunmetal gray, charcoal, and black. However, the interior features softer touches with beige-toned stone and decadent finishes. The lower level of the house includes a gym, cold plunge pool, wine cellar, movie theater, and sauna, while the penthouse level features a master suite with a private balcony and a bathroom clad in exotic slabs of black-and-white marble. There is also a rooftop deck offering breathtaking views.

Although the property's hillside location means a significant portion of the land is unusable, the mansion offers plenty of parking space with two garages that can accommodate up to seven cars and a flat motor court for several more. The estate's landscaping is mainly drought-tolerant plantings around the front and side, keeping gardening bills to a minimum.

Overall, Castro's new mansion may not compare to the surrounding scenery, but it is undoubtedly an impressive residence.
