Located within Malibu Canyon, community of Monte Nido nestles into its valley, is described by its Spanish name which means “Mountain Nest”.
The area is technically located in Calabasas, outside the City of Calabasas as well as the City of Malibu. Monte Nido occupies its own valley, just east of Malibu Canyon, bordered by Mulholland Highway, Malibu Canyon Road and the Saddle Peak mountain, which can be ascended via Piuma or Stunt Road. Monte Nido became connected to Malibu with the opening of Malibu Canyon Road in 1953. Prior to that, the route up over Saddle Peak then down via Rambla Pacifico and Las Flores had to be endured, too long to be practical. Now, Monte Nido is ten minutes from the beaches of Malibu as well as ten minutes from the central location of Calabasas and the 101.
